Dum Aloo Recipe – How to prepare my style scrumptious Dum Aloo

Dum AlooDum Aloo is a royal sabzi and very popular in all over India. You can eat it with Roti, Paratha, Naan, Kulcha, Puri etc.

All members of my family love it. There are many styles of cooking Dum Aloo sabzi. It can be made more attractive and tasty by your innovations.


So here is the my version of recipe with step by step pictures, hope you all will love it as always 🙂

Ingredients

  • Baby Potatoes (15 to 20 pieces)
  • Mint leaves ( few branches)
  • Tomato (2 to 3 pieces)
  • Onion (2 to 3 pieces)
  • Curd or fresh cream (4 to 5 teaspoons)
  • Coriander leaves (few branches)
  • Chili powder (3 teaspoon)
  • Salt (as per taste)
  • Turmeric powder (1/2 teaspoon)
  • Coriander powder (2 teaspoons)
  • Cumin powder (1 teaspoon)
  • Water (as required)
  • Garlic (3 to 4 cloves)
  • Ginger (1 inch piece)
  • Asafoetida (1/4 teaspoon)
  • Garam masala (1 teaspoon)
  • Bay leaf / tamal patra (1 piece)
  • Cashew nuts (7 to 8 pieces )
  • Green cardamom (3 to 4 pieces)
  • Dried Fenugreek Leaves/ Kasoori Methi (1 teaspoon)

Instructions

  1. Boil potatoes add salt at the time of boiling potatoes.
  2. Peel potatoes and with the help of toothpick make few holes in potatoes so it can be cooked from inside.
  3. Heat oil in the pan and fry peeled potatoes till they become golden brown in color.
  4. Soak cashew nuts for 15 to 20 minutes and make paste of green cardamom,bay leaf and socked cashew nuts by adding little water.
  5. Make paste of onion with mint leaves.
  6. Make paste of tomatoes, ginger and garlic.
  7. Heat oil in a pan and add asafoetida .
  8. Add onion and mint paste and saute till the mixture turns pink.
  9. Add ginger and garlic paste and tomato paste and saute till it looks to be properly cooked.
  10. Add paste of cashew nuts,cardamom and bay leaf.
  11. Add chili powder, turmeric powder, salt, cumin seed powder, coriander powder and garam masala and saute for a while and mix all the things well.
  12. Add curd or fresh cream and mix it properly.
  13. Add fried potatoes and 1 cup water and mix it well and carefully so that potatoes are not broken.
  14. Cover the pan with lid on a medium flame for 2 minutes and allow potatoes to absorb gravy.
  15. Add Dried Fenugreek leaves and mix it well.
  16. Garnish with coriander leaves.
  17. Dum Aloo are now ready.
